Hyperbaric Therapy

Patients benefit from hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) by breathing 100 percent oxygen in increased atmospheric pressure. The increased oxygen level in the tissue promotes healing and fights infection. HBOT is effective in healing wounds from certain medical conditions such as diabetic wounds as well as certain bone and skin infections.

This treatment, which is covered by most insurance plans, is appropriate for approximately 20 percent of patients with chronic wounds. The Wound Healing Center has two HBOT chambers. The roomy chamber is made out of a clear acrylic material. Some patients enjoy watching television during their treatments, while others prefer to sleep during the two-hour sessions.

Wounds treated with HBOT include:
  • Diabetic foot wounds.
  • Skin graft/flap salvage.
  • Soft tissue radiation damage.
  • Chronic refractory osteomyelitis.
  • Progressive necrotizing infections.
  • Osteoradionecrosis.

The number of hyperbaric treatments is determined by the conditions beings treated.  Treatments may range from 1 to 40 depending on the diagnosis.  Treatments are scheduled daily and occasionally twice daily.

Preparation for treatment involves several aspects.  We provide 100% cotton garments which you will wear during all treatments.  We ask that you remove all watches, jewelry, metal and synthetic materal.  Do not use makeup, hair spray, cologne, or lotions before your treatment.
